The Four Materials Explained
1. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
The workhorse of the traffic cone world. PVC cones are injection-molded around a hollow core, then joined to a heavy rubber base (37×37 cm typical). The two-part construction makes them the cheapest to manufacture and gives them the classic weighted feel that stays put in wind.

2. PE (Polyethylene)

Reflective Grade: Just as Important as Material
A cone is only useful at night if drivers see it. The reflective tape wrapping the cone comes in three grades:

A dishonest factory will silk-screen "PE cone" onto a cheaper PVC-blend cone. To verify:
- Ask for a material test report (density: PVC 1.35 g/cm³ vs PE 0.95 g/cm³)
- Do the burn test on a sample — PE burns clean with paraffin smell, PVC burns with black smoke and chlorine smell (don't inhale)
- Cold-flex test: put in freezer overnight, then drop from 1 m. PE and TPE bounce, PVC may crack.
